How It Works

This is not a volume program.

It is a commitment.

Charlie Five follows a deliberate and selective process to ensure every placement is successful for both the warrior and the horse.

The Process

1. Referral Through Trusted Partners

1. Referral Through Trusted Partners

1. Referral Through Trusted Partners

All participants are referred by approved partner programs.

These organizations verify proof of service and maintain direct knowledge of the individual’s background, character, and readiness.

2. Initial Conversation

1. Referral Through Trusted Partners

1. Referral Through Trusted Partners

Charlie Five connects directly with the individual.

This is an opportunity to understand their goals, mindset, and commitment to the lifestyle before moving forward.

3. Application & Evaluation

1. Referral Through Trusted Partners

4. Warrior Advisory Board Review

Selected individuals complete a detailed application.

We evaluate:

  • ability to care for an equine
  • commitment to long-term responsibility
  • personal goals and growth
  • readiness for the demands of the program

4. Warrior Advisory Board Review

Applications are reviewed by the Warrior Advisory Board, which consists primarily of individuals who have participated in the Charlie Five program.

The WAB provides insight based on firsthand experience and helps identify candidates who are prepared for the responsibility and commitment required.

5. Board Approval

6. Horse Placement

Final decisions are made by the Board of Directors.

Selection is based on alignment with the mission, demonstrated commitment, and overall readiness.

They are expected to:

  • maintain the health and well-being of the horse
  • remain engaged in the lifestyle
  • uphold the standards of the program

8. Continued Involvement

Participants remain part of the Charlie Five community.

Many go on to support future participants and contribute to the mission.

This program is earned, not given.

Charlie Five is built on responsibility, commitment, and long-term partnership between the warrior, the horse, and the community that supports them.
