Whether you served in a combat zone overseas or taken calls for service here at home, it can be difficult to try to erase images etched in your brain. If you need to talk to someone immediately, call 988 or text 838255, go to a church, hospital or VA. Life is such a precious gift.
It's hard for people to understand what you have been through and what you deal with and it can be tough to try to explain it. We firmly believe that simply doing something can change your mindset and help get you on the right path. Whether it is working with horses, tying flies, rock climbing or mountain biking, engage in something that brings you joy. While we are not a rehabilitation program or therapeutic riding center we do recommend some organizations that will be able to assist you regardless of your horsemanship abilities. Here list of organizations we encourage you to reach out to if you want to get involved in horsemanship.
If you are a Veteran or First Responder that is interested in receiving your own horse at no cost, we might be able to help.
Each individual is thoroughly vetted to determine whether they are qualified to participate. Participants must be fully capable of caring for a horse and have the proper knowledge and experience to do so.
Gifting a horse to a warrior is no small task. Our process can take more than a year to complete, it includes:
In the event a warrior is approved to receive a horse through Charlie Five, we will begin the search for the right horse. Each individual has different needs, skills, abilities and interests. This part of the process may take a considerable amount of time depending on a number of factors.
In the meantime we will connect the individual with resources to help keep them involved in horsemanship. We often seek out opportunities from partner programs and mentoring options in their local area. We may also offer personal development coaching through Day 6 Ranch.
Jake, Taylor, Jeremy and Amy sit down and talk about horses and warriors at the NRCHA Celebration of Champions.
Please reach us at info@charliefive.org if you cannot find an answer to your question.
Each warrior's journey is different so we pride ourselves on working with them individually. Applicants will be chosen by the board of directors. Factors assessed include, but are not limited to the amount of horse experience an individual has, the amount of time they are committing to staying engaged in horsemanship even though they do not have a horse and whether or not they or someone in their household has a horse they may ride or accomplish goals on.
Charlie Five is operated out of a private home and we generally do not accept visitors due to liability.
Unfortunately equine liability insurance is very expensive and therefore we do not use volunteers at our facility. If you are interested in volunteering to help when we have an event, drop us a line!
We are willing to help veterans from any era whether they have seen combat or not. We also support members of the First Responder community including police officers, firefighters, dispatchers, people in the medical field. Each application is considered on a case by case basis.
